Easter & Spring
Usually we celebrate Spring and Easter together in Preschool but the early date of Easter is changing that this year. (I've been told that we won't see an Easter this early again in our lifetimes!) Thankfully there are a few robins around and daffodils and crocuses popping out. Spend some time during our vacation looking for those signs of spring and celebrating the wonders of God's creation.
In Chapel this week we will the share the saddest story and the happiest story ever with the happy ending that God made Jesus alive again. You are welcome, as always, to come celebrate with us.

COMMUNITY HELPERS
Fire & Rescue, Police, Dental Hygienist Visit

In February we celebrated some of our community helpers. Many dramatic play centers were set up: I saw stores, fire stations, beauty parlors and post offices, to name a few. Books about community helpers were everywhere! The highlights of the month were the visits from three of community helpers. Officer Katy talked to all the threes and fours about being safe, and how the police work to help us. Dental Hygienist Ashleigh talked about how to keep our teeth clean, and what to expect at a visit to the dentist. And probably the most exciting of all were the Fire Department puppets who came and talked about being safe from fire. With them came the firemen who showed the children how they got dressed in fire fighter gear, and what they would look and sound like if they were fighting a fire. They also brought fire trucks for the children to see up close and personal.

Requests from Fairfax Fire & Rescue
  • Check your fire alarms.
  • Practice a fire drill using your alarm. Evacuate; don't just pretend.
  • Have a family meeting place.
  • Talk about how the firefighter sounded when wearing the mask; she or he is there to help. Don't hide from the firefighter in a real fire.
WHEN TO STAY HOME
Too Many Illnesses Lately
We are extremely concerned about the number of sick children and sick staff members in the last several weeks. In order to prevent the spread of viral and bacterial illnesses, sick children must not come to school.

What syptoms should keep my child home?

Please keep your child at home if they are feeling bad or show symptoms of illness.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 08/09
Openings
Tell your friends that we have openings for 2's and 2- or 3-day 3's in the mornings and 3- or 4-day 3's & 4's in the afternoon. Now that the lottery is past, all registrations are handled on a first-come, first served basis.

Priority Lottery
We were very pleased that children of all the families that registered for the Priority Lottery are placed in groups and enrollment letters should have been received. Only four children in the lottery had to take a second or third choice classes, and of course, they remain on the wait list for their first choices.

Receiving Packets
Packets with forms and the Parent Handbook have been sent home with your returning child unless there is a newly enrolling sibling in the family. Please note that returning children do not need to have the School Entrance Health Form completed again.
Parents of new children will need to pick up the packet at the Lake Anne office between now and May 1. Bring an original state-issued birth certificate or passport to show for identity verifcation when you pick up the packet.

May Tuition Payment
The May 2009 Tuition payment is due May 1, 2008. If we do not receive this payment, your child's space could be taken by another child on the wait list. This payment is refundable until June 15, 2008. If you have already sent the payment to the new mailing address at Lake Anne only to have it returned, we apologize. The mailbox is now set up and operational so there should be no problem with payments sent from now on.

08/09 Kindergarten Children
Please visit FCPS.edu and sign up for Keep in Touch. This systems sends you e-mails and/or text messages when the county school system makes weather related changes, but also updates about registering for kindergarten.
